Voice Over News!
Remember all those projects I promised to tell you about? They're FINALLY LIVE!
*Paid Subscribers can listen to today’s audio newsletter here.
Hey Gigglers!
I am SO excited to finally be able to share with you some of the voice-over projects I worked on. (I completed my recording sessions for some of these projects YEARS ago!) In the voice-over world, if a talent books something like a holiday radio spot, that talent could hear their voice on the radio within weeks, maybe even days. The turnaround time could be years for other projects, like AAA video games, animated TV shows, or feature films. (Imagine being cast as a main character in a show like Star Wars: The Clone Wars and having to keep it a secret from even your family members while it’s being made!)
For someone who is always bursting at the seams with enthusiasm for the little things (like when a hummingbird stops by our feeder for a few seconds), it has been a triumphant feat to keep my involvement in these fun projects a secret from you all this time.
Without further adieu, here are some fun projects I got to voice act for!
1. Latin American Original Series “L-POP” Now Streaming On Disney+
This TV show called “L-Pop” was made in Latin America. Spanish-speaking actors and actresses performed all the acting, and their performances are what you will see on screen. However, to make the show accessible to English-speaking audiences, the studio “localized” their original Spanish content to English. This process is much more involved and technically demanding than I am going to make it sound, but for the sake of brevity, they essentially hired English-speaking actors and actresses to perform all the original actors’ lines in English and had super talented audio engineers re-mix the audio from the show with the new English lines. This process is called “dubbing,” and it is something that I recently discovered I excel at! (I’m happy to explain the process in more detail in another newsletter if you’re interested, but dubbing essentially feels like karaoke for acting. You have to deliver your lines perfectly in time with the original actors’ mouth flaps while also, you know, acting and delivering an authentic performance. It’s an insanely technical process that is extremely fun for my puzzle-loving energizer bunny brain.)
I was hired to do “looping,” where you pretend to be one of the background actors and improv your way through a scene. It’s a total blast because you have zero time to prep. The engineer will say, “Here’s the scene— you’re a teenage ballet dancer, and you’re about to rehearse for this big act in the finals of a competition… go!” and you’re off! You have to immerse yourself in the world of the scene mentally, make up an entirely fictional person with a backstory, personality, perspective, and everything, and BE that person for however long the scene lasts, which could be minutes! Like I said, it’s an incredibly fun (and rewarding!) challenge for someone with an energizer bunny brain like me.
In addition, I also did a few “dubbed” lines for some incidental characters, but I haven’t watched the show yet, so I’m not sure if they kept my performance or went with another actor. (This is also why, in the world of acting and entertainment, I never share about projects I’ve booked until they’ve aired or the project has gone public. Sometimes, you get hired as an actor and go through the process of recording your lines in a booth or performing them on camera, only in the end to discover that they cut your scene entirely! You never know.)
Fun fact about this project: we only had an hour to record the lines and ended up starting 20 minutes late due to technical issues… but we finished 20 minutes EARLY! Either I’m an incredible dubber, or we never needed the whole hour. (I like to think I’m an incredible dubber, LOL)

2. Get in, save the day, and get out: How to prep for extraction shooter Ready or Not
I was cast to play a character named “Bella” in this thrilling first-person shooter game called “Ready or Not.” [Apparently, it was released LAST YEAR! As voice actors, we submit our auditions and only hear back if we’ve booked a job. Once we’ve booked it (yay!), we schedule a recording session, get in the booth and do our job, and eventually get paid. We hardly ever know what happens in the productions we’re a part of, or even sometimes the project's name because of how top secret everything is. It’s crazy! So I only recently discovered this game was released! I read the headline of this news article from a year ago and said aloud, “Hey! I was in that game!” Then I realized no one was in the room with me, so I quickly made a note to tell all my Gigglers!] I haven’t played this game yet, so I’m not sure where my character shows up, but Bella is the daughter of a politician, so I’m betting it’s the mini-game called “Sins of the Father.” You’ll have to let me know if you’ve played this game!
3. Murder, Mischief, & Mayhem! Podcast
The Wicked Wardlaw Women and the Mysterious Death of Ocey Snead is an episode in the Murder, Mischief & Mayhem! Podcast anthology of America’s heritage of scandal and murder. Here’s a quick summary of the show:
“From the annals of American criminal history come sensational cases that captured and held the public’s imagination. Join us for an excursion into that era’s version of Crime Scene Investigation – well before computers, cell phones, suspect databases, and DNA analysis – carried out by legends of law enforcement, in pursuit of some of the most notorious criminals from the 19th and 20th centuries.”
Doesn’t that sound like such a fun mystery podcast series?! It totally IS. I was cast to play a dramatic side character who only has ONE LINE in the second part of the episode. The line was, “Nude mother?! … Here boy, I’ll take a paper.” LMAO. You’ll have to listen to it and let me know what you think of the episode!
4. Dislyte Mobile Game
This isn’t exactly news (I booked this job years ago), but since there are still a handful of projects I can’t tell you about yet, and since we’ve gained a significant number of new Gigglers to this newsletter recently (hello!), I’ll share some of the voice over work I booked a while ago. It’s all so fun, I like talking about it anyways!
Dislyte is a mobile game set in future cities with striking visuals, exuberant beats, and superheroic characters. You collect players with unique abilities and choose who to include in your team for specific battles, but it’s also way different and so much more than that. I honestly can’t explain it. You’ll have to check it out for yourself. But be warned— it’s totally addicting!
I was cast as Nicole (Nephthys), who is what’s called a support Esper. She can revive and take damage for allies while granting them certain “buffs” in the game. (Here is a short video introducing Nicole, and here is her character card if you want to learn more about her!) I also got to do some background character lines for this advertisement for a character called Abigail. (You’ll hear me in the beginning… I play a big fan of Abigail, who screams, “I LOVE YOU, ABIGAIL!” LOL… I’ve been told I have a particular skill for squealing and playing any character with a bubbly, energetic personality. Who would’ve thought? Hahaha)
5. Fallout: New Vegas: Race to the Bottom DLC
Here’s a link to a video showcasing the lines I recorded for a character named Molly McAllister in the Fallout: New Vegas Race to the Bottom DLC! Here’s what GameRant has to say about it:
Though Fallout: New Vegas was released over a decade ago, it’s still one of the most beloved titles in the gaming community. Some even regard it as the best game in the Fallout franchise, and its popularity shows in just how active the modding scene still is.
One of the more recent mods released for Fallout: New Vegas is entitled “Race to the Bottom,” which introduces a new questline that focuses on roleplaying and dialogue choices. There are already a few playthroughs available on YouTube, but fans of Fallout: New Vegas and Obsidian’s quest design philosophy should definitely try the mod for themselves.
Once again, you’ll have to let me know if you’ve played this game!
That’s all I can tell you… for now 😎
I’m so glad I could finally share these fun projects with you! There are a handful of other projects I’ve been a part of that I can’t wait to tell you about. Hopefully, they’ll go live soon, so we can celebrate together! For now, I will keep auditioning.
Wish me luck!
Until next time,
Alexa (AKA The Giggler)
I forgot to mention that the audio engineer let me be a real goofball in the recording session for L-Pop. They kept my humorous improvised lines like “You’ve never had bacon on a stick?!” And “Trust me, I know all about socks.” 😁
Woooooow!!! I'm digging the Fallout entry. I feel like a know a celebrity now. 😉
Congratulations on the many great projects!
