Hey Gigglers!
I come to you this week with a short and sweet update full of fantastic news.
Firstly, I learned that my zany spy adventure comedy, Over the Top Secret, has been selected as an Honorable Mention in this year’s 12th Annual Writer’s Digest Self-Published E-book Awards!
I won a $50 gift card for the Writer’s Digest shop, and my book will be announced along with the winners on WritersDigest.com in May/June! Check out the great review I received from one of the judges:
“This story should appeal to older YA readers as well as adult fiction readers who enjoy a humorous look at the international spy game with a reluctant heroine and a dash of science fiction thrown in. The plot unfolds with one crazy adventure at a time, but it all leads seamlessly from one event to the next.
Characters are very well done. The main character is put into a series of crazy situations and maintains her wits. She doesn’t always seem to grasp what is going on, but that makes her more relatable and enjoyable. Secondary characters are also richly drawn, with strong physical descriptions that paint a picture in the reader’s mind.
The writing is crisp and easy to digest. The author creates a distinct narrative voice for her POV character that builds her personality and provides insight into the other characters and is perfect for YA genre.
Dialogue is well done and helps carry the story forward while also building the other characters. The author knows how to build suspense and does a great job of ending a chapter on a hook so the reader will continue with the story. From the catchy title to the exciting conclusion, this was a very fun read and difficult to put down.”

Exciting Voice Over News
I booked a NATIONAL COMMERCIAL! If you’re new to The Giggler, you may not know that in addition to being a filmmaker, writer, and overall goofball, I am also a voice actress and have gotten to work on some pretty fun projects so far. Well, I recently was selected to be the voice of a national commercial for the San Diego Department of Tourism! Here is a link to the ad:
Don’t you want to go explore San Diego right now?!
We spent literally an HOUR recording different takes for the 1.5 seconds we had to squeeze in that one line at the end. It turned out great!
Thanks for getting excited with me, Gigglers. I love storytelling of all kinds, but especially voice over! And how cool that this advertisement will be shown NATIONWIDE?! Eep!
Welp, I’m off to continue wedding planning. I can’t wait to be a Mrs!
Until Next Time,
Alexa (AKA The Giggler)
Congrats all around! Super exciting news about your book. I'll go click on the Substacky thing and see what's up. Also a reminder to me that I need to get everything booked for San Diego, since I'm going at the end of May. Any time is a good time to visit San Diego. It's been a while.
